Challenge

In order to continue to grow and scale its business, Envision Healthcare needed to solve three key problems:

1. Provide greater visibility into financial data to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the billing lifecycle.

2. Simplify and converge billing data from disparate sources and schedules. 

3. Improve invoice reconciliation time and simplify payment collection.

Solution 

To address these challenges, Kickdrum delivered a high-performance data ingestion pipeline and warehouse solution powered by AWS. This enabled  Envision to ingest data from its on-premise monolith, provider 837 files, and payer 835 files, processing them on a daily basis with full traceability and complete auditability.

AWS Lambda functions played a crucial role in unzipping, parsing, processing, and copying files throughout the data pipeline process. To ensure record provenance and traceability, each processing step was written to AWS DynamoDB for fast querying.

Kickdrum’s AWS cloud-native solution provided scalability and reliability previously unavailable to Envision’s analytics team, enabling them to process larger volumes of data and identify exceptions more efficiently and accurately compared to their previous legacy solutions. By using AWS Redshift, Kickdrum was able to deliver a solution with exceptional query performance for Envision’s analytics and billing groups.
