 Aspect Software

Installer Modernization

Increased ARR and 50% decrease
in provisioning costs

We modernized Aspect’s installer to help increase ARR, capture new customers, and optimize AWS spending.

Faster, Faster, Faster

For new customers, Aspect needed faster provisioning of cloud resources to increase conversion. For existing customers, they needed faster upgrades with less scheduled downtime to improve renewal rates.

From Monolith to Components

Kickdrum refactored and re-architected manual, monolithic installers into componentized installers that assemble dependencies dynamically at runtime. The solution leverages Chef recipes orchestrated by Jenkins servers and workers, all fully automated and managed as code, deployed into AWS. The new solution also eliminates fixed capacity installations, replacing it with automated setup of auto-scaling to achieve true elasticity.

Now, instead of provisioning entirely new, complete infrastructure from scratch for upgrades, new customers, or extra capacity, Aspect can only install what is required, and configure it to scale up and down automatically.

Kickdrum leveraged AWS services, including RDS, EC2, S3, Route 53, and AWS Secrets Manager. Terraform was used to provision EC2, Route 53, and EBS volumes. Chef was in place to configure EC2 instances and control the installation of software.

More Customers, Lower Costs

Not only will faster installation increase ARR and close rates, but Aspect will be able to migrate customers from on-prem infrastructure to the AWS cloud with ease, while cutting current AWS provisioning costs in half.

“Kickdrum’s team is world class - they delivered on several large and complex challenges that helped transform the value of our business and the excitement of our customers.”
